What's new in ChartHop: AI-drafted headcount plans, a 9 Box calibration grid, and more

ChartHop is an AI-powered people operations platform that connects workforce, business, and financial data in one place, so HR, Finance, and leadership can plan, operate, and make decisions from a single source of truth. Every six weeks the team ships a new batch of features.

This release is about getting more done just by asking. Ask ChartHop can now draft a complete headcount plan and build agentic actions from a plain-language request. Calibration gets a 9 Box grid that stays in sync with the sheet view. And Allocations, now in Labs, shows how each person's time splits across projects, initiatives, and programs. You'll also find 11 updates that came straight from your feedback and eight early looks in Labs. Here's everything that's new.

‍

Ask ChartHop setting up a weekly briefing action from a plain-language request

‍

Ask ChartHop drafts your headcount plans

Are you still building headcount plans one form field at a time? Not anymore. Describe what you need, and Ask ChartHop collects everything the plan requires in one focused conversation: titles, planned start dates, compensation, and any required fields. Your draft is complete before anything gets created.

Planning several roles at once? Ask ChartHop helps you think through timing too. Stagger start dates in waves, by seniority, or on a custom schedule, so Finance sees cost phasing from day one instead of after the fact.

When the draft is ready, it opens in the planning wizard at the Review step. Give it a once-over and submit it for approval. Available now.

‍

Build agentic actions in plain language

Tell Ask ChartHop what should happen and when, and it configures the action for you: triggers, filters, and steps. No technical setup required.

You can go from idea to a running workflow in minutes. A weekly digest, a new hire notification, a multi-step approval task. Each one starts with a sentence instead of a configuration screen.

And you stay in control. Every AI-created action is reviewable and editable before it goes live. Available in AI Pro.

‍

9 Box Calibration Grid: see your whole review on one grid

Calibration meetings go better when everyone is looking at the same picture. The new 9 Box tab in Calibration places each person in a cell based on two rating fields you choose, like performance and potential, so the room sees where everyone landed before the conversation even starts.

  • Size the grid to your scales. Pick any two single-choice or yes/no fields as the axes. A classic 3x3 works. So does a 5x3, or even a 1x3.
  • Drag to calibrate. Move someone to a new cell to propose new values for both fields. The Sheet tab reads the same proposals, so both views always agree.
  • Nothing changes until you merge. Proposals collect in one shared draft. Merge them from the review header, or discard them. Original form responses stay untouched.
  • Nobody falls through the cracks. If someone is missing a rating, they show up in an unplaced rail beside the grid, where you can't miss them.

Available now for customers using Calibrations in Performance Reviews. To turn it on, open your review settings and look right below Highlighted calibration questions.

Data Sheet showing each person's group allocations by percentage

‍

Allocations: see how time is really spent

When we launched Matrix Teams, the idea was simple: most work happens across departments, not neatly inside one. Allocations takes that a step further. You can split a person's time across groups like projects, initiatives, and programs, so your org reflects the work that's actually happening. This is one of my favorite kinds of features, because I know customers will use it in ways we haven't thought of yet.

  • Split time by percentage. Put someone at 50% on one initiative and 25% on another.
  • Turn it on where you need it. Allocations are opt-in by group type.
  • Track changes over time. Every allocation is effective-dated, so you can see who worked on what, and when.
  • Import in bulk. Load your groups with the Groups importer, then import allocations with start and end dates.
  • Show matrixed teams. Add someone to a group at 0% to show their involvement without changing FTE or cost.

Available now in Labs. Turn it on, try it with your own groups, and tell us what you think.

‍

From feedback to feature

You ask, we listen. These 11 updates came straight from customer requests.

  • Budget data in your Data Sheet. Add a budget's cost per job as a Data Sheet column, and break it out by total applied, applied to date, or any month. The numbers match the Budget Breakdown table.
  • Budget Breakdown export. Export the month-by-month Budget Breakdown per Job to CSV, so the file matches what you see on screen.
  • Comp band settings in one place. Starting salary, equity, and variable bonus columns now live together on the Comp Bands settings page. Before you turn a column off, ChartHop shows how many bands are affected.
  • View Changes from the approval timeline. See what an approver changed in a scenario with one click. View Changes opens the audit log already filtered to that approver.
  • Smart Groups and Expression Groups. Build groups that update themselves. Smart Groups base each group on a filter, like Contractors or your Exec Team. Expression Groups set membership from a table, so external data decides who belongs.
  • Graduated from Labs. Automated Actions, Approval Delegates, language switching, and Custom Groups are now available to all eligible customers. No Labs toggle needed.
  • Letters for planned hires. Preview and generate letters for people who only exist in a scenario, like a planned new hire.
  • Comp and Equity tab disclaimers. Add your own disclaimer to the Compensation and Equity profile tabs, and choose to display gross equity.
  • Time off by policy. Time off totals on the profile tab now break out by policy.
  • Hide signature details by default. A new org setting hides the signature details panel by default.
  • Position references in CQL. CQL now supports references to positions.

What's new in Labs

Labs is where you get an early look at what we're building, and where your feedback shapes what ships. Here's what you can turn on today.

  • Comp Review Impact Dashboard (Beta). Show leadership and Finance what the cycle actually cost, with KPI cards, a cost waterfall by change type or budget pool, a budget pool summary, and a three-level pivot.
  • Data Explorer (Beta). A full-screen view for exploring your people and business data with interactive charts, including a Bubble Chart that shows four dimensions at once.
  • Tables (Beta). Bring business data from Google Sheets, Salesforce, Zendesk, and more into ChartHop for a single, real-time view of your operations.
  • Pivot Tables in Data Sheet (Beta). Group your Data Sheet by Department, Location, or any dimension to build pivot tables. Progressive loading also makes Data Sheets load faster for larger orgs.
  • Per-person budget breakdown. A month-by-month table of the filled and open jobs counting against each budget, with filters to find missing comp data fast.
  • Budget forecast and variance. A projected line to each budget's end date, plus sortable variance columns that bring the budgets furthest off plan to the top.
  • Multiple filters on New Job. Admins can add a second and third filter to narrow the title list. Comp band and boolean fields work as filters too.
  • Portfolio rollup analytics. Pull every portfolio company's ChartHop org into one read-only parent org for a live, consolidated view. Each company keeps full control of its own data.

To find Labs, select Admin → Labs from the left sidebar. Can't spot it? Your CSM or our support team can help.
